How many places do you have to give status update to track a single coding/testing task?

I will go first: 5

  1. Jira
  2. Google Sheet
  3. Google doc
  4. Slack: 2/3 groups
  5. Daily standups

Does PM think this is judicious use of a software engineers time? Why can't you seriously just open the jira and read the timeline and due date?

Lool. Is your PM also a 26 year old with an MBA degree with no real life work experience, never written a line of code but is in charge of managing your time and is grossly overpaid?

The manager is great but he doesn’t have time and engineering managers and leads are just busy rimming each other and fucking rest.

Amen brother, this new grad pm generation is difficult to deal with

Works in startups, but yes that is one of the best ways to code fast

Quite accurate. Too much process and little real work

Pretty sure you're part of a small & miserable minority that way, OP
I don't think all coding tasks require updates at 5 places

Sounds like a daily standup update just in written format. Or am I missing something?

This isn't micro management. He isn't telling you how to do your job. He's paying you a salary to work, the least he ...

Jira sucks

Jira is an awful product. It' got tons of feature bloat, it's slow as hell and it only serves to increase transparency (enable micromanagement) by PMs so they can justify their existence. Whenever it is clearly causing overhead and confu...

What product management tools would you recommend?

Need some recommendations for a tool for our product management. Need it to meet following criteria:

  1. Easy visibility of Cross team roadmap's dependencies
  2. Publicly sharing of roadmap status
  3. 2-way integration with jira
  4. Trac...
