What is PIP

I am a fresher who is about to join a company in Bangalore. I've heard a lot of people mentioning the word 'PIP' on grapevine as well as reddit. Can you enlighten me with its meaning? Thanks.

Performance improvement plan It's a warning / alert to the employee that their performance is not upto the mark and it needs to improve.

Once PIP is issued, and performance doesn't improve, the organisation's next step would be to terminate or ask for a resignation from the said employee.

Also not a law. But this is a good definition. Non Indian companies/MNCs esp the new ones will try to avoid skipping PIPs mostly. Nothing is perfect , know a person whose startup was aquihired by Google but was foreced to resign after being put on stupid projects for two years.
