The Consultancy Conundrum — The Art of Paying for the Obvious

Disclaimer: This article is not intended to offend consultants — who else would we blame when things go sideways?

Consultancy — the elusive realm where experts promise enlightenment, only to leave organizations wondering if they accidentally hired a group of overqualified fortune tellers. In an age where organizations throw money at consulting firms like teenagers on Stanley cups (that’s a topic for another time), it’s high time we dissect this phenomenon.

If you’ve worked with consultants or are currently working with them, you may have found yourself in the all-too-familiar post-consultation conversation: “Wait, did we spend so much on this? Did we really need a consultant to tell us that our processes need improvement?” It’s like hiring a personal trainer only to be told to cut down on sugar and not act on late-night cravings — something we could have figured out ourselves.

I have posted my Not-SO-Wise views on this topic here: https://medium.com/@sortasage25/the-consultancy-conundrum-the-art-of-paying-for-the-obvious-2908749ed8a2
