Tech Influencers see stuck in their ivory towers

Disclaimer: I respect both of them, svs & SG; dare I say I am a fan.

But being on the other side of recruiting with all the power and influence of the corporate hierarchy, they seem to be out of touch.

Current reality: Firms put candidates on hold for months. HRs hardly reply to follow-ups. Processes with assignments that is free Labour in disguise. Asymmetry in salary negotiation (Companies asking for salary slips without telling us their budget/range).

Candidates are already on uneven field. SG and svs suggesting us to play it with integrity is bordering on their hypocrisy.

If you like a candidate and he has multiple offers, There's a reason he has multiple offers. Either Pay up or shut up!

Exactly! I would at least consider why I liked the candidate in first place, apparently others also see the same potential. Kind of market validation tbh

Even if you don't wanna hire the person, I don't want him to preach what is ideal and fair to us. They have no idea how bad this downturn is. They have no idea how shit the process feels for candidates.

So they can interview multiple but we cant give multiple interviews. He needs to stop pegging himself with his head

I really admire Svs, but I don't align with this post specifically.
That's a very fairy and ethical world he's talking about. Or maybe it might be true for leaders or people who r very experienced. But for Junior level, this doesn't make sense.

Does company are ever ethical?
Do they do what they say?
Are they ethical while terminating people?
Don't they hold up candidates for long?
Don't they revoke offers?

So true.

Employers asking for my current salary slips but maintaining my offer letter as confidential is the biggest hypocrisy. HRs who don't tell the range but ask for previous pay are even more assholes. That's why attrition in India is high. When candidates know they are underpaid, they are constantly looking out.

All of what you say is correct, except one thing. I don't recommend anything that everyone should follow :) Hopefully this post can explain more on what I'm trying to say. https://shantanugoel.com/2024/04/08/job-offers-optimization/

I agreed with your blog post.

But some folks are perpetually stuck at lower pays due to their college Tier, their current employer or often a career bad patch. And they find it impossible to close a gap as their offers are always benchmarked to their current salaries. Some well-paying employers might not shortlist them due to their low pay.

Regarding the honour in signing the dotted line & looking out... Personally, I wud only do this when I know a company to be absolute shit like Byjus or HRs to be completely short-sighted. If they are intentionally shortchanging as they know I am on notice or out of work, asking me to join within a week, inflating CTC by including gratuity, or by inflated Stock Price (Paytm granted Equity at their listing price till mid-2022), I wud not hesitate on signing that offer.

Ghosting by HR

Ghosting by HR is becoming increasingly common. This is not only for junior or middle level roles but also senior level. Talk to a prospective candidate and go to sleep. One more round and then go missing again. Repeat the process till t...
