Resigned from Microsoft
Hello Grapeviners
So I guess I hit the mid-life career crisis and finally resigned from Microsoft abruptly yesterday.
Reasons for resignation:
- I am saturated with my work and feel out of fuel now.
- No Pay Raise or Stocks since 2 years.
- No Promo in last 2 years even after being a top performer and winning multiple awards and accolades.
- Was promised by my manager that I will be promoted in Feb but now he/she quotes budget.
What my manager says:
- You have a valid L1B, don't resign.
- Says you will get the promo in September but now it is not possible.
Please Note: I resigned abruptly without any offers in hand. I guess managers think that folks who have L1B won't resign so their promo can be delayed.
Just wanted to share with the the community. Thanks 🙏

Half of me wanna yell at you for being stupid, but other half tells me you know better about appreciation and promo thing within org. If you don’t regret it, it’s good then!

Please yell at me. Why didn't I resign earlier, I don't know. Sometimes it is just better to pause for a while and that's what I am gonna do. This rat race is taking me no where.

Sometimes the only way to grow is to step outside of your comfort zone and take up new challenges. As long as you have a plan it will turn out to be okay

That’s a very good decision, buddy. I couldn’t be happier for you.
I don’t know why people have so many insecurities about jobs and all. These jobs will come and go, but the amount of toll they take on us mentally is not something that can be easily replaced. Life is much more than jobs! A few years down the road, these things won’t even matter. All the best for your future. :)

It's funny and sad that kids are told to get good jobs but when they get jobs, it is said that jobs are nothing. Initially we focus on getting good company, package, location, etc. but later we realise that maybe it was not all that worth. Somedays it's relevant, some days it's not. Fuck man, I have become so philosophical.

Everything boils down to your financial condition. For few, jobs might mean everything but on the other hand if you have decent savings or if you are someone who doesn’t prioritise money over everything you will treat your job as a job only.

Says you will get the promo in September
September: We would like to thank you for three years of service. Here's a trophy, and a box of micro soft windows!

Good that you finally did i guess, I was sick of Microsoft myself and by the time they laid me off, with a fat severance, I was counting my stars. It was an organisation that I loved so much but it changed over the years, became extremely political, toxic culture, no collaboration, no perks, hikes, stock awards, cost cutting (travel completely stopped) even with soaring profits every quarter. Why Microsoft did this was beyond me. Also, my manager who was basically a "diversity" hire, wanted to fire everyone who was above 'X' LPA CTC, irrespective of their contribution, yoe, etc. She also asked a very close friend of mine to file a POSH case on a senior leader just because she didn't like that leader. That was it for me and I basically stopped working after that, wanting to be laid off. I can't recognise the brand anymore. While they may be the darling of Wall Street nowadays, it's also the most poisonous work culture that I have experienced in my entire professional career.

YouTube channel when Bhaiya?

Don't have the courage to sell shitty courses so no YouTube channel from my end. Sorry 🥲

1st video... "Why are people quitting Microsoft". Then makes part 2 for "aapke kaafi comments, so recycled video with details".
Get good views and says thanks for "aapka dher sara pyaaaaar". Ends up becoming another cringe YouTuber. Btw I'm just imagining things 😅😅. Don't take it too seriously, same for your career situation.

Sometimes carrots aren't worth staying back for. Who knows there is a farm waiting for you. Have conviction, the right place lies ahead.

Curious to know whats going on in your head right now.
Bottom line - Its just a job , if you can crack microsoft , you can find a job anywhere! Period

I have to say this one hell of a baller move even if you have a cushion, given that you have resigned without any offer on hand (to me thats shockingly unimaginable). But you have taken the road less traveled, and I'm sure that it'll lead you to a better place

But help me understand one thing - why didn't you just follow quiet quitting? And if you have remote option, then maybe go to mountains/beach and work from there and figure your next steps?
