Offer Eval - Hungerstation (Delivery Hero) vs Visa Bangalore

Have these both offers. Dubai is tax free salary.

Don’t mind moving to Dubai but worried about brand value of Hungerstation and whether I’ll be able to move back to India if I want

Also I’m expecting not so technical peers and tech culture at Hungerstation

Any pointers to choose would be really helpful

The difference is comp is massive considering different taxation rules.

42L in BLR might translate to 30L to 34L. 72L in Dubai would be 72L. It's an extra 3.33 L per month.

Delivery Hero is a big brand in Europe but nowhere close to Visa. Hungerstation seems to be their Middle-east entity/acquisition. There is definitely a difference in brand value but I'm not too sure if it's really a meaningful difference.

The only thing I'm concerned about is SDE-2 vs SDE-3. Is the SDE-2 offer downlevelling you?

I’m working in Dubai. I’ll suggest go for Dubai offer. Pretty good living standards, WLB and compensation. You can go back if you don’t like it. I was quite reluctant to move here in UAE, been a year and I never felt that I am away from home. My hometown is 3 hours flight from Blr and 3.5 hours from Dubai with almost same price ticket so no home sickness as well. You will get a chance to explore life beyond work which I never experienced in my 5 years of work experience in India.
On health front, I enjoy sunset, beach life, more into fitness like running, swimming, cycling on F1 track.
On wealth front, I earned what I could have earned in 3 years in India after paying taxes.
Stop chasing a brand in IT industry please. Take care of yourself first.

Hey, thanks for the response. Which company do you work for and how easy is it to switch within Dubai. I can see very few tech presence. Would that be a problem ?

Work in an Indian startup which raised Series A last year. Comparatively more unstable than Delivery Hero. Yes, tech presence is very low but switching is not that difficult. There’s almost zero inflation here as well but you can get raise between 7-15%. Given that it’s tax free, it’s enough I guess. I’m sounding like I’m convincing you but I didn’t find any person who is not liking here. Take it. You can always go back to India.

It's a diametrically opposite choice - what were your thoughts & motivations when you applied? You should go back to those to figure out which one you prefer.

Living in DXB on a 72L fixed < living in BLR on 42L fixed.

Visa is a far better brand and potentially offers better learning & exits.

HungerStation and other Delivery Hero group companies had layoffs, while Visa didn’t. So pick your battles wisely.

Evaluate how much money you would need in Dubai per month to live according to your lifestyle. As far as I know, it's quite expensive. And then check the difference in compensation.

Not considering compensation, I would go for Visa. But the difference is really massive.

Not sure on the moving back part. Try to check with someone who has the first hand experience.

Career wise, visa looks much better but pay and lifestyle wise, delivery hero is better.

In the end, it’s on you- sde 2 with a better life or sde 3 with better career prospects.

Dubai is way more expensive to live in comparison. In blr in hand you’ll get 3L+ on a 50L salary and can live anywhere affordable/expensive based on your lifestyle. Visa on your resume is better than DH imo.

Hey @WryDefense3

What offers! Congratulations on this. I'd probably look at decision between wanting to be in India long term vs. being in Dubai - and setting up life there.

I feel people who move into Dubai are typically able to move from company to company, so you should probably be able to set up a life there.
