At this point, it's not even disappointing. It's just sad. Merit based payout does only one good, and that too to the company. it does not increase the base and thus percentage based increments are also on lower base.

Agreed. And basically a simple common sense dictates, why would companies do anything to benefit the employees if it doesn't benefit them in any way.
