150K in most US cities is going to give you much lower discretionary spend or saving versus 40L in India. You will probably have better quality of life though in terms of free time, lack of pain from relatives, less traffic issues etc. And then if you have spouse/kids, life might be a lot easier on them abroad. India is super competitive and doesn't value quality of life much.

If you have plans to live abroad because of quality of life reasons then go for it. The pay is decent

Thanks, one of the challenges is finding a suitable role for my spouse, he feels opportunities for him are better in India.

Yes that could be an issue cos some roles are way better in India than abroad. 150k is not enough for something where spouse is unhappy so maybe solve for that?

150k is like middle class in USA but 40 LPA is upper middle class in India. It's up to you to decide what kind of lifestyle you want.

This really helps, thanks!

Depends on the location: might not be so good in the Bay Area

Yes

Except for Bay Area and New York, 150K is very good. Even if it’s Bay Area, I’d say go for it and look for a better paying job in 2 years. Quality of life is way better than living in congested, filthy Indian cities. You will miss make the most, but get used to doing your work in 6 months.

If your partner has a decent current job & growth trajectory in India then you won’t be able to go. Unfortunately, this is how it works.

Even 100k is good to go.. no money in this country can match the quality of life abroad.
