[Interview Exp] Why can't Women professionals be seen as basic humans
Context: I had put out a message seeking newer projects, and a certain person reached out. They have over 20+ yrs of exp and run their own boutique consultancy. The role they had envisioned fit perfectly that I was looking for.
Interview: We spoke over an hour, discussing the role, my top skills that would be beneficial, future prospects, where I see myself beyond work. Genuinely good conversation.
The person concludes the Interview and I quote "Now that I have met you, I can definitely say the pictures you have over your social media and website do not do justice to how you look. You have many photogenic angles that you should explore"
Shock was understatement
I steered the conversation towards how it is essential for my personal brand building and I have it in my consideration. (I believe I handled it well)
P.S. Anyone who supports this because it was just appreciating beauty - wrong place wrong time and also wrong person.
P.P.S. Time to get a photoshoot done!

There's a line from Jaspreet Singh's special on Amazon - "Art chahe kitni bhi bda ho jaaye, tharak se niche hi rhega"

This is inappropriate Do not ever work with that person, and warn anyone against them if they're going to.
People should not have to face this at work.

Adding a pinch of positivity if this helps.
Had an amazing interview experience with a company recently. Most people on the interview panel were 40 or older. They were respectful, mindful of the time, clear with what they were asking and why, didn’t ask anything personal/ about family situation/ kids, didn’t ask my previous pay, didn’t ask why I left a certain company, didn’t play mind games around how the interview went, didn’t negotiate on what I had asked.
I was mind blown, impressed and grateful for restoring my faith in interviews and employment overall.

You know, it also boils down to people and individuals. Good ones come together to build great culture. Some rotten ones will ruin companies
Glad you had a good interview experience, they are rare 🙌

Yes, got the offer and joined the company. I wish for you to land at a good place too 🙌🏻

From a legal perspective in India, this comment could potentially constitute sexual harassment or discrimination based on gender. The comment about your appearance, particularly in a professional context, could be considered inappropriate and may violate laws related to workplace harassment and gender discrimination.
India's Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 defines sexual harassment broadly and includes unwelcome sexually determined behavior, making comments about a person's appearance included. Additionally, the Constitution of India guarantees the right to equality and prohibits discrimination based on sex.
If you feel uncomfortable or believe your rights have been violated, you may consider taking action by reporting the incident to the appropriate authorities within your organization or seeking legal advice on how to proceed further. It's important to address such behavior to maintain a respectful and safe work environment.

This was an interview, ideally I cannot raise a complaint because there's no authority or HR to report to.

For the purpose of POSH the interview environment is also considered part of the workplace so this could definitely be reported to someone appropriate at the company.

Respect for women who handle these types of situations in the workplaces/interviews with dignity. Don't know why there are so many sexually frustrated predatory boomers(uncles), Make sure to drop a review on Glassdoor so that other women can stay away from this company.

@Welt_yang Its because India is mostly a sexually frustrated country. The men and women here have to adhere to certain norms about chastity etc. Moreover, a boomer's mindset is that in their youth, they might have been deprived of their wishes, now they have money and all but no courage to do things they want openly .
While the interviewer is definitely very very wrong, the prevailing condition of societal norms ties down both men and women !!!
Disappointed you didn’t say “oh hello uncle, ghar mei bahu beti nhi hai kya?” and end the call.

Yaar I was looking for work then. He had agreed to match by expected comp and fully remote I held back thinking He can't do anything than saying shit

Honestly don't know what to say. I find myself in such situations, we meet such people every day every where , do I react to every such comment and report to management etc or brush away as this is one of the 100 s subtle harassment that I would go through in life . There s no guarantee that action would be taken upon even after we report . Some boomers are serious offenders who would never change until serious action are taken . Some would get scared once we report them a couple of times and try to behave well next time
Some no matter how many times you complain , their original character would never alter.. We need to handle case by case and depending on the situation and the reversed effect.
