Former fellow erratic sleeper. I need 8-9 hrs of sleep after 2 am, but only 7 hrs when I sleep at 11. Because the quality of sleep is not equal to hrs of sleep. Had read a research paper long back that talked about circadian rhythms being unaffected till 11pm for an area/place/spot that gets good sunlight in day. 9-11pm for every hr, you get 1-1.5hrs of sleep (max if you hit REM), 11-12 you get 1.25 hrs, 12-1 is standard 1 hr, 1-3am is 45 mins/hr only, 3-6am is standard 45mins-1hr. Sleep quality decreases with each day hour you’re sleeping hence we usually need longer in day than night to catchup on sleep. Secondly, if you have backlog of sleep (I.e you’ve only slept 6-7 hrs the past few days each) then also dark circles become stronger. Keep the room dark so that stray light is not hitting your light cones during sleep, sleep earlier to get more quality, keep your bed cool so that body falls asleep faster, do this regularly. Other factors people have already commented (phone time, noises, etc). Don’t have knowledge if genes impact this, but eye bags become lighter the more your eyes feel rested post sleep, REGULARLY.
Wishing you lots of beauty sleep, Biryani 🤗

Stop rubbing your eyes and instead rinse them with water. Rubbing can cause the capillaries to burst and make the skin look darker. Wear a night eye mask. Also it can be genetic, if your parents have it then you cant really do much about it.

Friends and family are telling me that my eyes are going deep inside. Also, the dark circles are growing.
