How to ask the recruiter about the budget of the role. They first insist on telling the current CTC. I am asking in Indian context.

You cannot, Just give an high arbitrary number. The come up with an explanation as why the hike you ask is justified. One of the best way is to tell them how you r role adds directly to the bottom line and how your performance can be measured in dollar terms. Keep saying "am sure you already know this about the role" HR's usually know shit. Normally will come up with a number. you can safely assume that the amount they say is atleast 30% lower than their budget.

This works in finance. an equivalent should be available in Tech world as well.

Actually the thing is they ask your current CTC and then they say we have budget of this amount which is almost always equal to 30% of the ctc

Actually the thing is they ask CTC and once you tell them they say there budget is xyz. Which is almost always equal to 1.3 times if the ctc(30 percent more than the ctc)

There's no way you can dodge that question unfortunately. Cuz , if you get selected, and when they do background verification, you'll get caught.

You can check Glassdoor salaries to know how much they're offering if they don't tell you
