Has anyone taken a career break for mental health

I want to understand how it has worked out for people who have done this, and what would be your general plan to navigate your way out of a mental health break and back to work?

I have done this multiple times in my career. Have taken 1 to 1.5 year long breaks whenever I was feeling burnt out.

During the breaks, with no more work pressure or deadlines, I was free to study a lot of new technologies and certifications, and thus always went back to a higher-paying role after the break than the previous job.

Also, during the break, keep in touch with your friends & ex-colleagues. They will help get you referrals and references, to help you get hired again after you’re done with your break. Good luck! 👍

Whenever I start getting this thought - I remind myself that even if I spend 50% of my salary on my wellbeing than I still save 50% plus I have a job. Thing is break will b helpful only if u r coming from well settled rich family. (Just my thought)

Since m a women I spend on saloon, shopping from nyka, spa from urban clap, watch netflix, wakeup early n go for walk or gym. Keeping my self calm and happy that I am doing well.

Few things which I do additionally is writing down things n doing imp things at work

  1. 2 high priority work
  2. 1 medium priority work
  3. If it's low priority keep waiting on it till it becomes medium priority

Every half hour I take 10 mins break

This is also good advice. Depends on who you are!

I took career break for my mental health last year September, my mental health was too bad, it took 3 months to get fully recovered. I can't even think or do any kind of analysis. Just sleeping and taking rest. Felt so depressed why it happened to me, I some how recovered from that and started preparing for new job, it took me 4-5 months to get a new job but I have learnt lot of things about life, how we look at it and how to deal with this kind of situation in future. Now I am happy and will continue me next set of journey...

Currently in the same situation, took a break just after starting my career in IT, completed 11 months had an outrageously stressful Project and Manager experience got so overwhelmed and now I’m getting treated for depression, people in my team are telling me tech is not for everyone. I feel bad that I had to choose this step to save me, my mental and physical health. Don’t know how much time I’ll take to recover and get back into job, literally no idea, if anyone can help me out like the post mentions that would be great since I don’t have much experience.
