Controversial Opinion on WFH vs RTO

Discussion has shifted to productivity in work from office vs work from home debate. I feel it’s a narrative which is kind of created by employers and their pr firms.

In reality it’s more about the power dynamics between employers and employees.

Employers are reclaiming control over their workforce by making work from office mandatory. By enforcing work from office policies, companies are subtly reminding employees of the limited job market, making them feel tethered to their current positions.

It’s mostly the local governments who have asked companies to call employees back to office. I know this from Hyd, Blr, cochin and Trivandrum. If salaried folks are not there in cities, the dependent part of the local economy like taxes, rents, payments to local vendors, maid, cook etc. gets affected. All the infrastructure being planned and setup in cities will become redundant if WFH or remote working becomes a thing. That’s why you have hybrid mode where you need to be in the city where your office is based out of.

Is this your opinion/ conjecture or are you sharing a fact that you have been privy to? Haven't heard about anything like this from senior friends in orgs in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore

One more angle to look at is the expensive overheads they have per employee to the landlord of that office space, for example if only 40% of the employees are working from office then the rest 60% would be lost
I’m Not supporting the decision of RTO but just adding another point
