Can someone fire you on call?

So I got call from my director I thought its a normal update call but he asked me to put papers over the teams call.

I got panicked and I asked him why what happened so he said we are not happy with your performance and your work in not good. Same feedback he has got from others.

But I have never got any feedback from my managers or senior saying that my work is not good nor i got any formal mail saying that i am doing bad work. Also i have never got any mail from HR for this or regarding PIP.

  1. Is this some kind of politics he is doing with me?
  2. Can someone ask you to put papers over the call?
  3. Can someone directly fire me like this?

What should i do in this situation as i am really scared and in a panic mode as I really don’t have an another offer in my hand.

Should i put papers or what should i do in this situation?
