In some places you have to give contacts for background verification. There you can manage. But if not, then yes your manager can give bad feedback. Happened with me

I have good relations with immediate manager and other team members. But not with immediate managers manager. Will give contact of my immediate manager and other senior team members will work

Just make sure if their LinkedIn profile is checked their designations kind of match if you’re faking it

did you have a TL or senior colleague who knows your work, give their numbers. Also don't think the manager will give bad feedback- got to be optimistic
