A person paying income tax should be given few options as to where she/he would like the govt to spend their money

It's my money, i should be able to spend some part of it towards the issue i relate the most to, apart from my own voluntary donations.

Of course the government needs to come up with some framework for proper distribution, but there should be a guarantee that some percentage of my money must be spent on the issue I want to contribute to.

I should be allowed to choose a specific city/area also.

e.g.poverty, education etc.

You have already voted the government in power. Vote them out if you feel they arent spending your tax money the right way. That is what happens everywhere.

No, the government doesn't work. Democracy has many flaws.

Let's assume there is a provision for that, but how can we be sure the tax money is getting spent on the things/area that we chose.Long way to go.

But it has many flaws, let me explain you never suggest your dad where to spend because you might not know exactly where he spends how he spends. It might lead to unrealistic expectations. For example a retired navy veteran might think govt. Should increase defence expenditure, a business might suggest to subsidise some aspects of their business, sports person might think we should increase sports infra. And worst part is it might neglect the weaker sections of our society.

This would require transparency in terms of expenditure, which would detract the govt from any form of corruption. Hence, I don’t see this getting implemented anytime soon.

even the current expenditures are also public records, but the government has control where they want to spend.

Saw a similar thread in reddit years ago. Some countries provide a clear breakdown of where your taxes go and what percentage. And I don't remember if it had any countries that allow you to have a say in how it's spent but I guess some advanced economies probably do allow it.

I feel it will be better, if citizen can withheld their taxes for a year or so, just to register a protest. Tax will be submitted, but govt shouldn't use it for the year, if citizen select to do so.

Should the tax slabs start at 12 LPA?

Don’t you think it’s kinda not fair to tax people especially in metro cities who earn less than a lakh a month. The cost of living in these places are already so high and due to that they may not even be able to make any investments. 12 ...

Why are welfare schemes branded as freebies?

On average, every Indian pays 24% of their income in indirect taxes. They in no way contribute less to a country's development than corporate folks. However, when a government announces a welfare scheme for the marginalized, everyone sta...

Why do people keep ranting about income tax

Bro, you are earning. Shouldn't you just be grateful that you are not born in war torn Afghanistan or disease ridden Africa. I mean life could be so much worse. In fact, the only difference between you and the office boy is the household...
