Zomato AR feature

As a Product person, I’m scratching my head looking at this feature and the use case for it.

“You can see how your food looks like” -We already have images -Its not like the portion size is accurate. One can zoom in and out -Not like this is how much food will look like after the delivery guy revvs his bikes

I get that AR makes sense for things that will stick with you for very long. But food? Its gone in 60 seconds! Why on earth would I want to see how my food looks like on my table?

Just curious, no hate.

Please enlighten me, kind sir. Derogatory remarks without proof make no sense.

Portion size for real

But we can zoom in and out right?

Also, in the image, if you look at the reference (Jenga box), the burger is not of the right size (default view, without zoom in/out)

Looks like the real life size of a vada pao

While I don't see a very good use case for the product, I do think it can drive impulse purchases by making the user hungrier.

This is one thing I agree with. As the product matures, better quality food representation can be shown, leading to impulse. Good one mate.

I think it's a good idea to try! IMO, If food is present in front then craving increases. So chances of people ordering would increase (better funnel conversion).
I don't have data but I feel probability of ordering an item - Food with no image < food with image < food in AR

This is something I agree with. Would love to see data for this

We know already it’s not going to increase engagement or orders. This is a branding exercise. Cool tech in customers hands improve brand image in their mind.
Model sizes are made to be real life, mistakes may happen but we try to make them life size. If it actually improve orders, we might charge from restaurant for the feature.

Thanks for sharing the reasoning behind the feature. Curious to know what the numbers looked like

I haven't used Zomato in a while so I don't know how it feels to use this feature. But I agree with you, there is no point in this feature when you can zoom-in/zoom-out and the size of the dish remains constant.

Ideally, the size of the food item should change according to the reference points, it would've been better if the item could be fixated against any one reference point and the user can zoom-in/out as if they're moving closer/farther from the food item.
