I think payscale, perks, housing is not at all bad. And if your department / project is significant, funding is not a problem.

(Barring Data/AI scientists)Because we don’t see those scientists on social media. Working in Govt institutes, unless it is IIT/IISc isn’t fashionable. I bet most of us didn’t know Dr APJ Kalam till he became the monumental name in DRDO and then the President of India.
