What's the best part of being a PM for you?

Hey guys, I’m between jobs right now, which is a fancy way of saying I’m hunting for one. After sending out over 60 applications and cracking a few interviews, I’ve got three final rounds left. I’ve loved being a Product Manager (PM) for the past three years, but re-entering the job market has been quite an eye-opener, yaar.

What I’m reading everywhere makes the PM role seem super tough and exhausting. In the PM groups I’m part of, the vibe is pretty negative. Some folks I spoke to at companies said things like, “Don’t take it personally,” “Resilience,” and “Mental strength” are key. I think I have these qualities, but it sounds like there’s this constant struggle with the rest of the teams, almost like the developers are waging war against PMs.

That hasn’t been my experience at all, but I can’t ignore what I’m seeing. So, I’m curious: For all the PMs out there, what’s the best part of being a Product Manager for you?

What do you think of Product Managers?

Product managers are a divisive bunch. Ask us what we do, and most of us puff our chests and babble about Steve Jobs, PMF and god-knows-what. The rest slouch and mumble something about writing JIRAs.

Curious about how non-PM folks view ...
