Companies should stop doing this and just list the salary range or if they don't have a fixed budget, then mention that it's commensurate with experience.
Saying "competitive market pay" could mean anything. For remote jobs, if the going salary is 12lpa in one location and 20lpa in another location, does that mean I'm going to get 14lpa or 22lpa? Because I could just say I live in an expensive city, and I want the higher package.
