We need to change the law 🧑‍⚖️

Whatever shit happened with that Brazilian rider girl in Jharkhand, I wish this is a wake up call for our law.

She travelled Pakistan, Bangladesh all safe but here in India. What will we do with higher GDP if we cannot protect our tourist or females?

I wish police had done instant encounter & live stream it!!!

While this is a horrible incident, Media is creating a distorted picture as outrage / negativity sells. If you look at the statistics of crime, there has never been a better time in history to be a human (globally) as crime is going down as a whole. Media create a warped reality whenever there has been a terrible incident like this or shooting in the US. A few days ago, the news was all about Indian students getting shot in the US. Now, it will be this news until there is a new terrible incident to continue inducing outrage. Instead of reporting the stats to give historical perspectives (which is going down https://humanprogress.org/trends/global-murder-rate-is-falling/ ), they go for outrage inducing baits. What's worse is they are quite selective on which topics to cover. For instance, never didn't report the sexual assault of that mumbai girl in the Bastian restaurant because the perpetrators were well connected and rich.

Don't get me wrong, I really hope that this girl gets justice and perpetrators punished , and so does every other sexual assault victim (including the mumbai victim).

Rightly said ,Crime has down both in India and globally, still a lot to do to improve.

Living in a metro , I sometimes forget , how cruel, unfair life in our country was and is now.

Being most populous and a poor country , value of life in low 😢 .

I am hopeful about improvent of our country though

Media is incentivised to spread negativity about any thing as an emotion as that keeps people hooked to news due to polarisation which in turns keeps the ad money flowing. It's all business for them.

I was also in favour of some form of public execution for such violent crimes. But another Grapeviner pointed out that this will basically incentivise such criminals to kill their victims as the punishment is death in either case and killing might help them get away.

I'm now wondering if public punitive maiming is a viable alternative but no opinions formed yet.

Yeah, that is also a deep-thought point. But yaar this is insane; she was just staying in her tent.

I also go camping & stay in tents; I think I will never have the courage to stay again!! Unless 9mm or some sought of offensive arms are made available to the public.

Yup. I used to think Americans are absolute morons for allowing people to have firearms. I now don't think so harshly of them.

While it's sad incident, Just to put things into perspective we've come a long way from girls being raped in open by organised gangs for ₹20 mms to be sold at cyber cafes.

We're not in the best of situation but things have improved, albeit slowly.

Hey. How much do you know about our laws? What more do you want. Please read through how draconian anti rape laws are in India.

And jumping to conclusions is a menace. Let investigation happen

Law is not the solution. Law at best can be a double edged sword. Indian laws much much better for women than the ones in USA. And it has come at an insane cost to men.
If you need more info, just follow Deepika Narayan bharadwaj's work.

Each one talks about abuse of draconian laws made to protect women. Indian women are previlaged. Only one side gets this media attention, that itself is sick and maybe perverted.

I always post out a heart felt note on Independence Day for all the brave warriors who stood out for us. But today, somehow it feels wrong to post it. It feels I am putting up a farce to hide the real truth. What happened in Kolkata was ...
