US-India package equivalence

Hi everyone, Can anyone tell like what is the equivalent of US packages in india considering the impact of purchase power parity, tax, things required for living, etc factors. Thanks.

For an example- In India, what can be the equivalent of 1 crore (120355 USD) US package?

There isn’t a single number that can define this.

  • Taxation : In the US, you might be paying really high tax at some places (California) and zero at others (Portland)

  • A car in India is a huge expense but you get a car in the US for very % of your annual salary

  • Healthcare in India is affordable and accessible but if you or your loved ones get a disease that requires specialists, you might require a huge amount of money even with Insurance. This isn’t exactly true in the US

  • Services — Maids, Drivers, Urbanclap are extremely cheap in India compared to US

  • Travel is cheaper in the US

  • Education quality in government schools is really good in most places in the US so most people send their kids to these schools. A child’s education is a good % of your monthly income in India since you can send them only to private schools.

This calculation needs to happen based on your needs, your future plans and other factors.

@HatchSedanSuv thanks, but the post didn’t talk about taxes so I think this equivalence (80lacs-23lacs) can be corrected further. Right?

Yea...add some of your judgement to it, depending where you're located etc. Cheers!

You can use this calculator to calculate PPP for India: https://www.chrislross.com/PPPConverter/

It basically comes down to 100k USD will buy you same goods in US as ~23 lakhs INR in India.

If you are relocating within the same company, then your firm would have an MRP for the equivalent position in India. You can find out how they arrived at it. If your relocation is part of a job change then like someone earlier said the number is purely based on your needs and how important you are for them.
