No year is wasted bro. It's OK. You have learned life skills. Not everything needs to be linear. You can try in tech now. Your stack is good. Make projects in them and apply for startups.

As you know java and you are from Mech background, see if you can do Mech software related courses like team center customisation, cad customisation. I think competition is low there.
