Trying to switch to a FRONT END DEV

What would you say to someone who worked 5+ years in tech support industry and is now trying to switch to a front end or a full stack web dev? Is it worth the time according to you? Do people even give chance to someone like that in the industry who is starting out as a fresher after having experience in a different domain for 5+ years?
