Tripled my salary, but life somehow feels worse

I’m 26, earning more than I ever thought I would, and still feel completely trapped. Grew up in a middle-class family with constant financial stress and critically ill parents, so most of my early salary went into debt and hospital bills. Worked really hard, switched jobs, tripled my salary, moved to a new city for the first time… and thought life would finally begin.

Instead, I am doing 12–15 hour workdays, losing weight, losing interest in things I loved, and constantly worrying that one medical emergency at home will wipe out everything I have saved.

Theres pressure to support family, build a house, save for marriage, and also get married soon. I wanted to travel, live freely, and enjoy my youth. Instead, I just feel like I became the “responsible son” stuck in a better-paying version of the same rat race.

Anyone else feel like they’re earning more, but living less?

Yes, these are mutual feelings, get a personal health insurance for the medical emergency feeling

Cant do that as my Parents have pre-existing disease and thats the reason I only have to rely on corporate insurance.

Corporate will cover pre-existing as well na?

More power to you, try to split some responsibilities with siblings.
Also, take the positives if you won't be making this amount then it would be very difficult for you to even support them. All these stresses likhe building house, marriage is present because you are earning good, else you would be in even more pain.
About the situation see I'm assuming you are in Amazon, stay some time there anyway you will get good learning then easily switch to food wlb company and then start enjoying. Life will start then my friend.

Once you earn more and people knows your pay, that were the problem starts..... Automatically life style inflation increase....

That's what happening in real estates, You needed 2bhk which is 1.2-1.5cr which is sufficient, but due to peir pressure and people will you that you earn more and why to compromise. Either 2bhk cost increase into better community or you will increase to 3-4bhk and increase you emi and you will start working for gov and banks, not for yourself

Wohi Peer Pressure mein hi toh nahi aana bhai.
Lifestyle inflation I can agree with as long as your savings have some inflation too.
If you’re lifestyle inflation has gone up by 20% and your savings has also gone up by let’s say 10-15%.
It’s okay.

But if you’re lifestyle is up 50% and savings are down or same level. That’s an issue.

Get a term insurance first of all.

Second increase your corporate insurance cover if you can. I know it’s pretty costly but since you can’t have normal one. Maximise it the max you can at this point.

I know money is life but can’t you switch jobs and you can considering you cracked amazon. 12-15 hours workday will take a toll on your health.

Hey OP 👋

First of all, you've done a great job so far; I'm sure you are extremely resilient and have a strong willpower and waypower.

First lets talk about work situation -> 12-15 hrs will just burn you out, and since you work for Amz its no secret that they hate employees. I suggest that you try to focus on the the work tasks which actually have high output (like P0 issues, important features, etc.) and let the other tasks be backlogged.

Second -> find a hobby, it doesn't have to make sense just that you should enjoy that time (so could be anything from playing ukulele, to foot juggling tennis balls, to learning card tricks)

Third -> you should think about marriage only when other issues have been sorted, don't bother with a house in bangalore or big cities (its not worth it unless you have that excess cash), you probably still have a good 3-4 years before you get married

I can related, i earned a lot for 5 years and all went to repay my father's loan, mother health personal loan and my education lone. From this year all debt is gone and now my health is backing and I spent 60 percent of salary for my health . Idk middle class curse is real for those who are fighting to improve. And sadly we will get married and a child and work for the child and lose ourselves.

It's not the salary which makes one feel better but it's ur hobby which make you feel happy ... If u r following ur hobbies while working then u will be happy

I would suggest living your life cause you never know when will be your last day. Marriage can come later in the picture but don't force it. What's the point of earning if you're not enjoying your own hard earned money.

I feel lucky that I might now be earning as much as you are but my parents are financially well off. We have our own flat which we recently purchased for 3 cr , have our own car and all the basic necessities. Living a peaceful life.
