2d back, i said to someone that u r safe until a senior intern(workex with low pkg) or AI can't replace u...saw that happening...swiggy replacing sdes 1-4 by ase from witch and senior interns.
š If I would have been the CEO...I will charge a bit extra for swiggy one, raise few inr on platform fees and keep those employees safe. ( I got free swiggy one subscription from last 1y)
Employees should be like family else why will anyone join them again? Put yourself in laid off employees with huge emis of home, car and may be Europe tour. They should provide therapy alongwith 3-6m severance also.

Indian consumers donāt want to pay is the reality. With every rupee they increase in terms of platform fee or any other charges leads to a drop in users and orders. They donāt blindly offer Swiggy One for free to everyone.
Also, while my heart goes out to the ones who are impacted, it is also true that some of them may not be contributing enough and the ROI was becoming hard to justify.
Employees are not like family! This is a misconception! By that logic, an employee should also never quit the company because you canāt quit on your family?

I am swiggy user from 8-9y and I don't have Zomato in my phone. Before swiggy foodpanda was my saviour.

Zomato offers Gold too for free or at really discounted prices. Also, anecdotally, you may be willing to pay but there are so many around you who will not be.
Also, in case youāve missed it, Zomato did some layoffs too last week and they have in the past as well.
Tata Group pays peanuts. Also, the day their cash cows stop funding most of their loss making businesses, those companies will be doomed ! Why is Big Basket still making losses even after being acquired by Tata Group? You canāt compare a legacy name with a new age startup

Every business has to set right expectations since start or wait for right moment for PMF. Swiggy set wrong expectations since start with consumer by offering discounts. The managers in swiggy aren't able to cultivate wlb for employees and now this. It is a founding team mistake

PMF and scale are 2 different things! Every D2C company or aggregator offers discounts. People wanting wlb should not consider startups at large. They pay a lot more and expect also a lot more

Also, even the large ones like Amazon, Google, meta etc are doing layoffs. You think they donāt have PMF? Reasons for layoffs can be varied.

To be very clear, swiggy layoffs are to make balance sheet look good for a potential IPO. Firing people whose departments didn't make money.
You cannot charge higher as customers don't pay, VCs aren't willing to invest for growth, only sustenance.
Neither employees, not employers treat each other as family. This is forced BS which one has to float to look good on newspapers. That Indian middle class keeps falling for this trap and takes their jobs as long term and perpetual is a problem with them.
