Suggestion for first car
Hey tribe,
Newbie here. Haven't learnt driving yet, thinking of admission soon. Car budget - within 15L
Want to get a car which will be ofcourse first car of life.
- Confused between 2nd hand/new battle. Still unable to decide. Please shed some light on this
- Also suggest which car should I get?
My personal liking is for CSUVs. But its not a hard criteria if its not logical to get one as first car.

For second hand Jeep Compass is good Option you get under 7 lakh 2018 model and Jeep compass 2021 under 11 lakh , for new i suggest go for Slavia 1.5 where you also get 2.5 lakh discount. If you have any questions DM me.

Won't suggest a sedan as his first car.

Okay, but do you think 2nd hand is a good option to consider?
Also, sedan as a first car...dont you think it can be tricky for a newbie learner?

Bro buy a new one.
Wrt to suggestion, depends on your driving style. I am assuming that since you are a newbie, you wouldn't want to get involved in the maintainance etc of the car a lot, hence don't go for Turbo engines.
I would suggest you to go for automatic due to convenience hence suggest 3 cars
I20 IMT: 10L Brezza TC: 12L Elevate CVT : 15 L
Happy to answer more questions

Also, don't go for Tata or Mahindra even in Naturally Aspirated engines

i20 is a cvt/ivt but yeah these three are all solid suggestions

I would suggest that you go for something below 10lakhs. You’ll be making many mistakes and a cheaper car will keep your emotions and pocket in check.

Sure, the lower the better for me too. What would you suggest?

Tata nexon, altroz, Mahindra xuv3xo, baleno.

Kia seltos
Tata harrier
Both are good options.
Tata has better safety than kia.
You can go for kushq, but its maintenence is little high compared to others.
MG astor is a small but good option but milega is trash.
Would suggest go for Tata based on its safety ratings, but a bit costly.

Don't want to go with full boxy and bulky cars as the first one. Dont think it will be easy for a newbie learner to maneuver and navigate in city.
Harrier is full size SUV, so definitely not at this stage. Kia/Hyundai again no because of safety reasons. MG looks good but have heard bad reviews about their engine quality and mileage performance.
Very bullish on skoda/vw/Tata/Mahindra/Honda. Although I have heard bad reviews about Tata and Mahindra service experience as well as electronic parts problems

Then bacha kya? Give me your options then i can suggest their pros and cons.
Skoda kushaq is good but its maintenance is more compared to others
Nishan magnite is also a good option, but its bulky.

I would advice to go for a decent used car for your first car from my experience.
I bought a ritz for 3.2 from a friend, used it for 8 years (80k km), sold it for 1.9 later. Awesome reliable car it was, gave me no troubles. (apart from wear and tear stuff like battery, clutch plates, break pads etc)
Not saying you need to keep it for as long, but I can share that I got an idea what I want in my next car.
My next car was Skoda Rapid, AT. Got it for 13L 4 years ago. I love it ! Fits my usage. (highways + city mostly, no offroading etc !)
So I would suggest spend 4-5 L on a used car, use it for 2-3 years, sell it for 3-4L, By then, you will have good experience driving & also you will have an idea what you want in a car.
Your decision must depend on your usage (highways mostly / city use / rural / offroading etc).
Either way, 15L is a good budget. It is not guaranteed that in new car, there wont be maintenance issues, the same way its not guaranteed that a used car will definitely have issues. Having said that, now days, modern vehicles are much much reliable. Mostly issues come due to dead battery etc, engines / etc are quite reliable and rarely there are issues (of course there are exceptions) For eg, My dad has tiago since 6 years and no issues at all so far. I personally have not experienced any major issue in my vehicle other than a dead battery ot a flat tire. I have not a bunch of modern cars stranded on roads on highways in my 1L + driving.
Maruthi - good engines, strong service network, Easy sale, resale. Honda - awesome engines, better make, smaller service network, east sale, resale Tata, Mahindra - Good for diesel engines. Noisier petrol engines, good safety rating. OK service network VW/Skoda - Good combination of engine + safety, but smaller network, pricier.
Each brand has their own strengths and weaknesses, so “right decision” is what is right for you 😁

The best comment so far. Thanks for explaining in such detail! 🥹
2nd hand Tata/Mahindra/Maruti/Honda. How does that sound to you?

Go with 2nd hand Best option will be Honda amaze, you will get it for 5-7 lakhs

In 7 lakh you get honda city 5th gen

I purchased a 2021 Hyundai Aura diesel amt top end for 6.5L. I was very happy with my choice for a first car. Be it sedan or suv, make sure it's in a good condition.
Get a 5-7 yo manual hatchback, preferably with approx. 8-10k kms/year running on the meter. So 5yo~40-50k kms should be fine. An old i10/i20/Baleno/Swift is good. After getting it, get it interior deep cleaned and exterior buffed if needed.
Drive it for 1-2 years and refine your driving first. Once you are more refined at it, then think of moving to a new car. If you get a new one right away, you will give it a lot of wear and tear and it will age quicker. Instead, buy a fairly aged vehicle now, maruti/hyundai means low running cost on avg, and sell it in two years, you will probably on oard a few dings etc so at least its not on a new car this way. In 2 years, won’t lose too much value, so it will be a win win overallz

Makes sense. Perfect. 2nd hand is ideally what i am also looking for, just that having a little trouble is settling with hatchback. Really wanted a compact suv

Do not buy a hatchback, go for an SUV, after a couple of months you will regret having hatchback

Thanks. Hatchback is also not much in plan. Btw, second hand or new?

Go for a new one, scorpio n can be a good choice, just drive slowly for a couple of months, try to drive daily for at least a month.

For such a huge investment, doesn't make sense to first buy a 2nd hand car for 5-7 lakhs and THEN invest further down the line to buy a new car for double that amount. Buy one car, learn carefully and have fun. Scratches and dents will be fixed for much less than the amount and maintenance you will spend on a 2nd hand car
Suggestion: Virtus 1.0 gt line (15.89) based on Delhi Ex Showroom

Wow, quite ambitious for a first time newbie learner. Won't sedan be difficult for parking and maneuvering for me?

Switching from any car to any car is a considerable change. Let's say he crashed his rear bumper 15 times while parking in his new car, will the repair cost be more than the 5-7 lakhs he will spend on a 2nd hand car (+ maintenance) ?
That should answer the question

I was in a similar soup - would recommend good ground clearance, don’t buy 1st hand go 2nd hand as your first car (it will hurt a lot more if it’s a scratch or a dent in your first), don’t worry about driving - it’s easy you’ll get a hand of it but start in wee morning hours and leave to home early first few days.. get an automatic (I REPEAT HAS TO BE AUTOMATIC)..

Solid, makes sense. But why automatic? I really wanted to learn and get mastery over gear shifting and manual transmissions
