Some sense prevailing finally.
It's a decent win. And, the best thing about startups is they listen and are real quick!
(Goyal did lose the plot though when he had to endlessly keep explaining in his thread yesterday when things started snowballing)

The discrimination on green vs red jerseys makes a lot of sense. Don't want people to judge what you're ordering basis the t-shirt of the rider.
That said, still don't get how any of this was casteist. Open to learn from somebody who understands.

Gujaratis were ready to bar the red uniform guys from entering their societies

Anything towards vegetarians this liberal lobby will go crazy. This is why when hotel serves rotten meat, and people die of food poisoning i dont feel sorry any more.

How does a company of this size do such a fuck up? Somebody is getting fired for sure.

Only somebody who has lived under a rock and not seen/read the news (from respectable sources) can come up with something like this.

@Bicken_Chiryani what? how is that? I'm saying this for deciding to put up tshirts, then removing them. More thought was needed before going forward with all of it.

It was a marketing stunt and it worked. People gave them a really nice publicity.

I feel the same. It looks like a marketing stunt. You announce something and you withdraw it the next day morning.
Didn't anyone in the team bring this up? Did you discuss with any other human before telling the whole world.?
Something just doesn't sit right. ๐

Zomato doesn't need no marketing.

But the issue still remains the same. It doesn't give me the assurance that the food I am getting from a pure veg restaurant will not have the smell of non veg food. Not to offend any kind of eaters, but there have been instances where packaged Veg food has got eggs in it

Comments on thsj thread show why Indian techies need.lessons in the social sciences

Techies always need lessons about what is acceptable socially. Thatโs not social sciences, just depends on whims of the loudmouth minority. Most tech folks arenโt so well adjusted to the society to get that sense.
Other names for it is hivemind, herd mentality, practical intelligence. Its just a clear signal how the twitter crowd thinks. Not whether the thinking is correct.

And punctuations.

Imagine the PR disaster if a driver with a red shirt was assaulted because he was carrying non-veg food. I don't understand how companies like Zomato come up with such idiotic ideas.

I pity the PM working on this idea. He/she might have slogged for at least a couple of months ideating and executing and ensuring everything falls in place at the time of GTM, only to be taken aback by internet lashing and then the CEO first backing up but later backing out of the idea and changing it altogether! Tough luck bro/sis!

dont worry ๐ about it, we dont have that much big timelines is friday live krdo is all what we know

Having a 100% veg restaurants filter on the app is a huge help for a lot of vegetarians (e.g. my parents) who don't prefer to eat from places which serve both.
But yes, a different on-ground fleet wasn't really required. Good that people pointed out the consequences and they took back the decision with lightning speed. Really liked how quickly and well they responded to the backlash.

Unless this entire thing was some marketing stunt, I am surprised they didn't appear to have considered the ramifications of implementing this.
I have personally seen apartment complexes that don't like non-vegetarian food beyond delivered. This would definitely have resulted in issues for customers and delivery partners.
Wonder if their market research showed an untapped market of vegetarian customers who never order because the bag may also contain non-vegetarian food.

Yeah, your last statement is what I thought of when I read the new fleet launch news yesterday.
