Some Career Bothering Thoughts 💠…
My growth in terms of salary has not been that steep actually. I am having 3 years of experience in backend development and i am going to join my 3rd company next month.
Company A (2022) - joined at 10 lpa Exit - 2024 at a ctc of 10.5 lpa
Company B (2024) - joined at 15 lpa Exit - 2025 at a ctc of 15.75 lpa
Company C (2025 going to join) - joined at 20.35 lpa (fixed: 18.5)
Now i am thinking to be here for a longer term. My first switch was for getting out of service based company to a PBC. Second switch is because the technology used in current company is outdated and product is also legacy one. The new company is a fortune 50 PBC, and technologies are also latest.
I feel that i made the right decision, though i didnt got a promoted role ( designation is still Software Engineer, though grade is higher in new company), but there is some increase in pay and also work is gonna be good.
What should be my approach for future now. I feel i am not that prepared, always think of studying but never able to fully focus due to one thing or another. Even the opportunities i got feel by luck, not much confident on my skills.
Any one suffered same thought or situation? or any helpful advises are appreciated!!

First of all.. don't worry, as someone said it's ok to switch if you don't like working in one place.
However, I wanted to ask what makes you think growth in terms of salary has not been steep? It's a great salary for 3 exp.
I didn't switch much in early years and joined my 3rd company at 11.5 LPA with almost 8 years of experience.
Stop being hard on yourself and sometimes feel good that early in your life you have managed to reach above 20 LPA.
And remember no one knows shit till they get their hands dirty. So don't worry about not being prepared. Everyone out there is riding on luck.
I don't mean to demean anyone's efforts but luck plays a big part in us being at the right place at the right time. Be it in front of an interviewer in a good mood. In an interview with a company that is looking for skills that you have and willing to pay for your skill. Getting questions that you have prepared a day before in an interview. All of that has luck in it.

Very well said and put, i feel too that luck plays a hefty part in all your opportunities in life.
Why i said its not a steep growth is because people have said to me why i am going for switches with 15-20% hikes, people here are switching with 80-100% hike at once and those people are my friends.
I understand that comparison is thief of joy but still sometimes i feel that, since you are defined by the people around you.. it kinda bothers me.

As long as you are able to articulate well and justify the multiple 1 year switches in your next interview.

Only 1 switch in 1 year. The first one was after 2 years

Heyyaa dont fret my friend. See the fact that you pulled a big OL like this speaks volumes about your innate skill.
Second, no matter how difficult it is, take some time off your weekend and analyse how your day is structured and week. You will find things you can actually cut off.
With regards to upskilling, you dont need too much time. If you can find in a day 15 minutes to learn something that is exactly 1 % growth. Compounding that will yield great results.
You would see your peers hustling and stuff let them do it. You take life in the pace you want to take it. A suggestion I would say is just check out Alex Hormonzi on YouTube he gives golden advice. He once said if your goal is to be a rich then all you have to do is find 15 minutes of time a day to slowly build something. It may take longer than people around you but you will get there.
Regarding titles bruv, dont worry too much, you will get the titles as well as you grow. See your ctc would not have grown if you didn't have the package to offer especially during a time like this.
Take a deep breath and take one step at a time, you got this and will figure out.

Thanks a lot for such a thoughtful comment!

Don't overthink. It's okay to switch if you don't feel like working there. Just focus on the new role and getting better at the new org. You are doing great.
Imposters syndrome will be there even when you grow into a directors role. So just focus on what you have now

Thats some quality advise and what i wanted to hear. Thanks a lot!
