I did my first solo in oct 2025. 8 days travelling in maharashta.im from North india btw. Beautiful experience.
You get know soo much about people, culture and most importantly yourself.

Just plan your stay properly. Research as much as you can about the place youre going to. And just go for it, dont overthink.

Once you start with it ,theres no going back.

Yea solo backpackers hostel with sharing rooms of bunk beds. Depends on your comfort, privacy and budget.

Anyways since youd be solo travelling , you's use the hostels mostly for resting purpose.

Curious

  1. flight and stay are the most expensive in abroad travel as well?
  2. Do we have hostels abroad too? Is Airbnb or hostel which is cheaper or do you suggest hotels for safety?

  1. Flights mostly, for hostels, they're pretty cheap everywhere.

  2. Yeah, hostels are present in almost every part of the world. Use hostelworld to find good ones across the globe. For booking you can check local trusted websites of tht country as hostelworld is a bit more expensive than them usually but good for checking out the best places.

I have been one for the last 3 years. I would suggest starting with a hobby like trekking, then a Bike ride to any famous nearby places. I myself am a winter trekker and a bike rider with some awesome stories - can talk sometime later :)

Since it's your first time, plan everything from travel plans to places to visit and stays. From your second trip, you have the confidence to travel even without any plans.

Solo travels are one the best life experiences, you will meet many folks, listen to their stories, make your own story and perhaps meet someone special.

If you are a girl, save some money and travel outside India.. People can debate it as much but that's a hard fact.

Anything affordable like Singapore, Dubai, if budget is not a concern - go japan...
My favs in India are: Sikkim Andaman
Rajasthan

Start travelling within the city on your own and start exploring. Check out BMTC services which take you for a city tour. If you are not against visiting temples, KSRTC and BMTC both offer trips lasting for a single day covering certain temples. Some groups like Muddie trails offer weekend trips from Bangalore. You can google and find many like minded groups. Start small. You will gain confidence. All the very best!

I was also in same boat last year. Started from Auroville, Pondicherry. I stayed at Zomad Hostels and that helped me gain confidence to do more. There are many other hostel options as well.

I was there for a week, met interesting people and we did a lot of interesting things. Learned surfing, had yoga and pottery classes. Few interesting workshops. And met amazing people and got very different perspectives of living life.

I did a lot of solo trips after that, one thing to note is that, you never feel solo if you are staying in hostels. But host and people around matters, so once do research and checkout good hostels, you will meet like minded people and stories.

I would suggest you to start from this Zomad hostels in Auroville as i did and then explore yourself. I keep coming back here 🤟

And this place is super easy to reach. Just 5hrs from Banglore. Lots of bus options, even car/ bike is good option.

If you are worried about your courage and motivation, you have to take the leap of faith only once.

Choose the destination wisely - might go for popular ones if you are an extrovert, you'd mostly find group travellers and a good crowd. If you are an introvert, you can look for offbeat locations - you'll find more of your type here - interesting people having niche interests and probably seasoned solo travelers.

Accommodation wouldn't be a problem anywhere (as far as my experience goes) since the chain hostel companies like Hosteller, Zostel, GoStops etc have great coverage. Local hostels with good google reviews would be good options too. Dorms only, no point in taking private rooms.

Research well on the logistics, stay, things-to-do part and you are good to go! Things will be a cakewalk second time onwards! All the best!
