[Shocking] India Govt may ban Real Money Gaming/Betting online

Govt is planning to ban RMG altogether. So many friends and founders work on RMG. As per below article 2 lac people may lose jobs and 2500 crores of investment may go to waste.

I feel like this is quite a disaster for the people involved in this industry and I’m not sure if somenting like this has ever happened before. Dream 11, MPL, Games 24/7, Gameskraft, Nazara, Zupee, Winzo maybe heavily affected

Do you folks have any friends in RMG industry?

I have friends working in RMG. I have worked in one of the top RMG companies briefly myself.

I remember reading a support email from a farmer pleading to ban his Son’s account because he lost lacs gambling money away.

I know the profits fill pockets but I support the ban.

Stricter regulation is required, but banning is more of a knee jerk reaction rather than a thought out plan.

Why employees should suffer because of someone's addiction or poor risk management.

Online gaming is just a platform. Those who wants to do gambling will do it anyhow, be it offline or illegal websites

True, but we can make it harder to access. Right now, even a child can get into these apps and websites.

It sounds logical Until your son or a family member looses everything. The ads everywhere and coupons on upi transactions easily lure people/kids in this. This should be banned.

Even Govt is loosing on around 20k cr GST money, however what they are solving for is real ground level people problem - lot of poor folks are loosing money or addicted to these platforms. Their chances of winning are almost zero and the platform chances of making money are almost 100%.
These platforms say that this is skill based - how come betting on players or cricket match outcome skill?

If addiction is the reason, then people will turn to illegal channels which is worse tbh. Banning something will always create illegal grey area esp on vices. Look at GJ , alcohol is banned but people still get access to it illegally

What is the situation at dream11?

Access is difficult as it should be in this case. Anyone can use these platforms. Should be remove these platforms only the addicts will start looking for alternatives but people won't se banner ads of the illegal platforms na..

They'll do this and then they'll allow Ambanis and Adanis to do it and then remove it. You all should be familiar with this crap by now.

Cannot believe how suddenly and quickly this is happening While it was always iffy, it's sad how many talented people will suddenly lose jobs.

If this happens then most of the folks will start playing on illegal or legally not operated in India kind of apps using web3. And we will have lot more scams.

I feel just regulate heavily. Crackdown on ads, put daily limits on how much you can play. Instead of outright banning it.

Atleast there'll be an entry barrier. Compared to seeing advertisements anywhere and everywhere and download it with just a click, the illegal ones might not be completely exposed. Atleast the % of people who get into it will be reduced.

believe me people don't wanna go through so much hassle to just play only addicts do this and addicts will play anyway but atleast we can prevent future addicts cause these addicts too were once a naive player.
