Setting the record straight!
To all the people here, I have observed way too many posts on salary checks based on experience.
I can pretty much guarantee you, your salary or pay doesn't depend on your years of experience. Your salary or pay depends on these factors primarily -
- Location of the company (city / country)
- The impact you have created in past (very highly dependent)
- The impact your hiring managers believe you can create once you are on boarded (again, very important)
- The kind of company you join(can they afford to pay high salaries)
That's all that matters! There could be definitely more factors, but these truly are major ones!
For all those who are doing salary checks across their years of experience, figure out if those are really unique years of experience or doing same thing year on year!
For those who think some people are overpaid, or people this young shouldn't deserve this salary or that these people just got lucky, that's not the case. When you are good, you make your own luck!
Next time you evaluate your salary, see the impact you have created. Then figure out what you should earn as a salary for the impact you have created and ask for it! Higher the impact, higher the reason for great pay!
Anyone agrees?

Although it's good to know , how much does one's skills worth in the market. There are other platforms where one can find that info, rather than asking anonymous people online

And I don't say that people shouldn't know what their skills are worth. But randomly just asking salary check with their years of experience doesn't give anyone any idea on what impact they have created in their journey. That's the thing I am trying to tackle here.

People have misconception that number of years resonates with salary you earn. That's not the case!

There’s no better Managerial gyaan than this post. With due respect, I disagree with you as I believe what you mentioned is far from reality.
What I see:
- Companies recruiting people like herd.
- Companies offer undeservingly higher salaries to so called techies.
- Employees indulging in politics, yes boss & related behaviors win over genuine employees. They get the hot piece of cake.
- Most, if not all, Managers have their own biases that gets reflected in the appraisal of an employee.
- 80% of the quality job is done by 20% of team members. Rest only enjoy their eliteness by merely surviving in the company.
How many of you agree me?

I disagree. Addressing your points -
- What's that got to do with my post above?
- Who made you the decision maker to decide who deserves what salary? I am sure the hiring manager gave that salary to the person while hiring because they saw previous and future possible impact. No one gives out money if it's undeserving!
- Not true. Maybe that's your perception. True, sugarcoating does help. But your merit or your ability isn't just gonna be limited to your company. The moment you are out, people will be in line to hire you if you have created that impact
- Yes, again, a moot point if you only see within the org. And as teams are smaller, the politics you talk about is also less. No one can progress by mere politics. Everyone knows that to truly progress, meritocracy is the only way. Managers will do what is takes to retain their best talent
- Yes, and they do get compensated. Don't they?

Well tell this to the HR who informs me there is a budget range for the role at their rockstar company 🥹
