SDE1 - SDE2 role change, hike disappointment
Got a role promotion to SDE 2 but hike provided with role change was very minimal i.e 10%. I am disappointed with this as I have been rated very well by my peers. I am thinking of asking to reverse the role change for a better hike. Would like the grapevine community to share some thoughts about this.

Were you already well paid as a SDE1? If so, hikes would be relatively minimal. Salary bands have a bit of overlap. On promotion, usually you start near the bottom of the band for the next role.

Was paid ok. Not very high. Thanks for the explanation anyways.

How much? Give the salary range not more than 5lakhs of difference. Maybe because of that you're not given so much hike.

I don't understand why you want to ask for a reversal of the role. Just ask for a better hike if you are going to ask.

Feels like an insult to be honest. More work for less pay. That's why I want to ask for role reversal if there is no change in hike

It is. But don't act on emotions. Counter productive. As others suggested, find a new job and move on. It's beneficial for you to be a senior engineer and interview for senior engineer over getting demoted to junior again and interviewing from there..

Ask for a better hike or look to leave to get way better hikes, whatever is convenient to you

10% ??? Very lucky man

😂

Just leave the damn company and switch

internal promotions are always lowballed. switch jobs.

If you thing role reversal will help you with less responsibility and less work You are wrong here. You have to work as expected from a SDE-2. It's better to ask for higher % hike or prepare and switch
