If seats are proportionate to the population of each category, why is there so much debate about reservation?
Consider competing within your category, where individuals have had similar privileges for centuries. When someone from a reserved category gets selected, they have excelled within their category, demonstrating their capability.
Why do general category individuals compare themselves to those who historically have been denied basic rights such as education, property ownership, temple access, and who were treated as untouchables?
Even if reservation is abolished, it wouldn't necessarily benefit the general category significantly. For instance, if the cut-off for the general category is currently 99%, removing reservations won't lower it drastically. It might only decrease to around 98.5% because there are still thousands of students scoring between 98-100 percentile, while seats remain limited.
We need to ensure representation from all sections of society, including tribes from remote forest areas and individuals whose parents perform menial jobs. Everyone deserves the right to education and opportunities for advancement.
Additionally, reservations are designed to address historical injustices and provide a level playing field for those who have been marginalized. It's about creating an inclusive society where everyone has an equal chance to succeed, regardless of their background. By supporting reservation policies, we are working towards a more equitable society where the success of an individual is not predetermined by their socio-economic status or caste.
