Let me share an insider story on why we outsource inspite of having inhouse capability/capability that can be built.
We need people to be blamed. Yes, that simple. Shocking?. When you take outside services , there is a cost involved (kickbacks/quid pro quo are real too). We can show immediate results/response. And year or two down the line "reducing" costs to show progress is easier. If things fail we can always blame them.
Another eg- Every year, every company get tax notices. Our finance teams have multiple cAs but none of them will take the case or represent the company at the department. Instead we hire an outside auditor in practice and pay him for every hearing. No CFO will question this. Because of the case fails we can blame the outside guy rather than the employee.
