Retention Promise vs New Offer

Need unbiased advice.

7 yoe (Cloud), 3+ years in the current org. No promotion yet despite leading deliveries.

Current CTC around 15. offer in hand is mid 20. Org countered slightly lower stating band limit without promotion.

GM verbally promised promotion in a few months & possible AI team exposure (not documented).

New role aligns more with multi-cloud DevOps and European client.

Both service-based. Current: remote + good manager but indian client New: HCL, Hybrid mode

Stay for the promise or move for better hope?

Trust their words and stay
Stay If agreed for written commitment
Move on no matter what they say

Retention promise never works. Once resigned, go out. Come back even a year later, But never accept revised pay and stay. The info of pay revision will get leaked within the team, Someone will follow, if he/she is more important for the team, you manager will blame you for the situation. All frustration and anger will be taken out on you.

Worse, they will try to retain you with the plan to replace you 6 months from now.

Verbal or any promises in corporate world , have the same importance as a item song has to the story line in a Bollywood movie.

There is a great saying in IT. "Never trust your current organization after resigning."

Bro they will probably ask you to come office 3 day in week so think and rest is depend on project and luck in hcl.

It's totally on what you are assigned to. HCLTech is terrible for work life balance, batchmate is in HCLTech at Chennai. She is being requested to work and escalations till Zonal Heads and HR Managers if she declines an assignment due to burden of existing ones. I hope yours won't be the same.

Do not wait for verbal promises, just ignore those.

HCL is strict with their policies, thier hybrid is more like WFO. Its up to you if difference is not much better to stay and make good rapport. Sometime words matter more than action

The hybrid setup itself signals about more control and politics. If the difference is not too much in new TC vs counter stay where you are.
