Quitting design after 9 years with no backup
After nine years, I’ve finally decided to quit my job without any backup plan. I was stuck in a career that didn’t suit my vibe. The last four years were especially brutal, 10 hour days, six days a week. I missed important family functions and was always drained, both physically and emotionally. And what did I get in return? A manager yelling at me to finish a six-month project in one month, all while our engineering office was severely understaffed.
Every December, I’m burnt out to the point that I can’t even enjoy time with my family. All I want to do is sleep. My health and relationships have suffered because my rare free time is spent on basic chores and trying to recharge. And guess what? The good employees never stick around for these crazy 10-hour shifts. Are such hours even normal? Does anyone else feel this, or am I the only one?
Any advice for someone who's quitting their job without any backup plan?
