People who understand geopolitics, why is Italy being so cutesy with us?

What's the reason? Modi loving Meloni is bs, there is more to this PR stunt

Follow the money, there are a lot of Italian "business interests" invested in India, in the order of tens of billions by almost 700 different organisations. The idea here being the growing market in India will provide better returns than a more stagnant market back home.

Meloni is just serving the interests of the Italian ruling class just like our guy. RW hardliners serve the interests of the big businesses over what's good for the people.

Systemically misinformed masses can be easily manipulated. The last few decades have shown it's far easier to maintain the status quo by controlling the narrative. The media is extensively controlled by the RW, so a majority of people only ever hear one narrative.

Most of India's voting population is found in small towns and villages, who operate in a more feudal-like manner (compared to more west-aligned "neoliberal" big cities). The left movement fails to capture the peasantry who opt to vote for their well funded, local lord (or affiliates) by means of small "gifts" or even coercion. The left isn't big enough to go village by village and explain the situation to the locals. 2019 election (biggest defeat of the "left") employed mass communication tactics via the use of text messaging, social media, local news (guess what operator sold cheap phones with free data a few years prior!)

Not inherently, but you'd be living under a rock if you think we live under a democracy. It's the government of the people, yes, but let's say some people are more "people" than the other people.

Clear high power mind games. If the world is feeling satisfied of this relation with a meme reference, then why deny it? Both the sides will get good PR and public support. And in the midst of all this, side deals will get ignored, if any. And that can be both, good or bad. Just the deals which cannot be shown to public.

Adding on to already mentioned points - it might be about defence deals. remember the augusta westland helicoptor scam - i think the entire deal got scrapped - India and France are big in terms of defence deals - and maybe Italy also wants a piece of the pie. This and all other points related to trade etc and increasing imports from Italy of highly specialised machinery and tools etc.

Did you catch Meloni's most recent Instagram post? 🫣

We think that big personalities don't notice the memes we create or upload on the internet, but we're wrong because they're human too. I just saw Meloni's Instagram post where she shared a picture with Modi where she used hastag #melodi ...
