Parents just don't get it
So, my dad called me on Wednesday panicking about my career. He is clueless about tech roles, appraisals, bonuses at my org. Not that I'm strapped for cash at 28 LPA, but he'll be spending weeks stressing over my future.
My mother caught wind of this and sat me down. Turns out, she's already bought SBI PO exam guidebooks, printed the syllabus, downloaded the government forms. That's when it hit me, that my parents have accepted my e-commerce job is temporary, a layoff can happen at any moment.
Couldn't focus on work after that. My mind kept playing out weird scenarios of giving entry-level banking exams, and damn they're all depressing.
I guess that's Indian parenting? We'll all go through chasing their validation eventually.

The thinking of the older generation is from experience, hardship, and generational knowledge.
No family in the world acquires gold like indian families.
Every family, every individual first and foremost benchmark of "settling" in life is owning a house and having some gold.
Debt was looked down upon.
Having kids is equated to wealth.
Marriage was done early, so that people are able to achive stable life.
Having a business of learning a skill is important. Being a salaried employee was looked down upon.
Theses were all generational knowledge.
A few people thought since they can peak in English, wear western clothes we can copy the western stuff , so the old generation are all fools.

You make a fair point. Their anxiety definitely comes from a place of love and wanting stability for us. It just gets a bit overwhelming to navigate sometimes.
lol 😂 not sure what to tell you . In my home they are least bothered about where am working or do I have job or not no clue. On a jobless day my dad asks me are you free today have some work 🤣 . Mind voice full day am free and my dad got good sense of humour 🤣

Haha, that sounds honestly peaceful. Grass is always greener on the other side, I guess. I'd gladly trade the SBI PO guidebooks for doing some chores around the house.
