Notice period

I am a 2024 grad. I got to know that my org has 3 month notice period. I have talked with 2-3 seniors, I got to know that they don't let go before 3 months and don't offer buy out. The CTC is not that good also (8.3 LPA).

My background - new IIT CSE, 500+ question on leetcode, knight in leetcode, specialist in codeforces, have projects in go backend, intership in spring boot, sql tech stack. Had to take this offer as I didn't cheat in on campus placement and less companies were visiting my campus.

My job location is in Chennai, I have done internship there. I do not like the weather there and my org says that I have to go there only. I want to do a early switch(weather+low ctc). Many peeps from WITCH do switch despite having 3 month notice period.

Can someone guide me what to do in this situation. Do I have no other option than staying in this company ? Please enlighten me all software engineers 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hey, 8.3 LPA is a good CTC in the current situations and Chennai has a lot more to offer you will surely love chennai if you can explore well. And coming to the 3 month notice period, it is not necessary for you to serve the notice period if the new company your joining has no problem with you joining earlier without proper settlement. But have a conversation with your manager and explain your situation, most of the time people listen, or you can convince them .

Thank you very much for the information and reply. As you have said if my manager agrees it would be a great relief for me. Just wanted to know if there is any list of that companies do take in candidates before completion of notice period.

Yeah, most companies do take candidates before the notice period, it all depends on how urgent they want you to be in..

It think it's more fomo based issues and not hard issues, but that's just me.

Try switching after 1 year. 3 month waiting period is not an issue until you have less than 3 yoE.

I don't have issue with 3 month np, I just want better compensation.

Let me guess, your friends are making more than you, that's it's bothering you. It's fine, learn as much as possible here, like git, writing documentation and how to handle people etc ..(only if you like your techstack)

Have a backup,(run way of 6 months).

Now,start applying to companies via naukri(lie about notice period in profile)etc. If you are getting calls frequently from good company with good package, then it solidifies that your profile is good enough to fetch interviews frequently.

Quit the company without any offer letter in hand, one you have enough financial backup and you are confident in dev skills (not only DSA).

Start giving interviews when you are in np.
