New 'Smart' Insulin Auto-Regulates Blood Sugar Levels

• Scientists have developed a new form of 'smart' insulin that can self-regulate based on blood glucose levels.
• This insulin effectively reduces high blood-sugar concentrations and prevents them from dropping too low, a condition known as hypoglycaemia.
• The insulin molecule, named NNC2215, was tested in pigs and rats and found to be as effective as normal human insulin.
• The molecule is the first insulin shown to target glucose, and further research is ongoing to optimize it.
