One of my known did it. He used a fake offer to negotiate a better one (I mean that offer was not totally fake, but he received that offer around 2 years back, so he changed the date and offer amount). It initially worked, but got caught two months after joining and were asked to resign citing malpractice. So, it’s a risky move with real consequences.
Won't recommend it at all!

How did he get caught?

I don’t believe you. A lot of my friends do it ALL the time. Also, such documents are probably the part of pre-hire checks.
After hiring you, they won’t revisit the counter offer document, I’m pretty sure. Even if they do, they have no way of finding out if the offer is fake, unless the edits were’t done properly.

I’m a real man. I negotiate on skills.

Recently, while i was serving notice period in psl. Hr scheduled my call with audit team and audit guy asked me to share screen and show offer letter received on email which I showed as counter in psl. And I was able to show since it was genuine. So share fake offers as per your risk.

Don’t ever do it! The consequences will be severe when you get caught..

What consequences bro, you'll get fired? For many people it is definitely big but for other big chunk of people who don't have responsibilities and are sub 25 26, it does not matter. Livin in fear is the worst thing imo

Use the fake offer to negotiate with a company that you don't wanna join. Get their offer and negotiate with the company you want to join. 🫡
Ye Axvha tha bro

You never share an offer letter even if you have a real one. You say I have this much offer from another company , if you believe it match it else I'm not joining.
Now upto HR if they can call the bluff.

And what if the HR says that they will only negotiate if we send them the other OL?

Some big MNCs e.g. TCS has a portal where you can validate the offer letter if it's real or fake. Rest it's up to the candidate that how he deals or shares the offer letter to negotiate and get caught if fake.

Never ever do that
