Need opinions on a home services + local shop discovery idea for India

I’ve been thinking about a business idea and wanted to hear what people think. The concept is simple: a platform where you can:

1.Book local service providers like plumbers, electricians, or home cleaners.(like task rabbit) 2.Find nearby shops for specific needs, like hardware or electronics repair, using a Google Maps-based feature. The idea is to make it easier to find reliable help and local services without relying on random searches or personal connections. Shops and service providers can register for visibility, and users can review them after using the service.

Here’s why I think this could work:

  • Finding good, dependable service providers can still be a hassle, especially in smaller cities.
  • Most local shops, like kirana stores or hardware shops, aren’t online, so this could help them reach more people.
  • Apps like Urban Company and Zomato show that there’s a market for convenience-based services in India.

But I also know there are challenges: -Competing with platforms like Urban Company. -Building trust with users and convincing service providers to sign up. -Making the platform affordable enough for the Indian market while still being profitable.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts: -Would you use a platform like this? -What’s your biggest frustration when it comes to finding local services or shops? -What features would you want to see on a platform like this? -Do you think this could work in smaller cities as well, or would it only make sense in metros?

I’d love any feedback—positive or critical. I want to make sure this idea actually solves a real problem.

We'll be having Swiggy, zomato like feature where anyone can register to provide their services. In contrast, Urban Company is having their own employees working for them to provide services.
