Microsoft is becoming an ageist company

Some context (partial here- https://www.linkedin.com/posts/mariselacerda_microsoft-wants-to-know-if-im-ready-to-retire-share-7453680576839979008-HSUe)

So I got to hear from a source about a memo, part of which is covered in the linkedin post someone wrote about.

The TL;DR (as I hear it is): 1- if you are below a certain level and not in sales, you are eligible for 'voluntary retirement' 2- the ESOP addition is no longer linked to your performance and this 'gives manager more flexibility in rewarding employees'

Which should be read as- 1- they are bringing in compensation levels 2- old people are expensive and their stocks are crazy 3- they believe they do not add enough strategic value and hence need AI to pick up the slack 4- new resources will be cheaper and market corrected 5- stocks are now meant only for select few

My guess. All the money will be redirected towards compute.

I won't say Microsoft is a horrible employer, but every mid-aged employee is a second class citizen. Easy way to check- how close and visibile are you to the 'strategic' folks (above whatever level that is.

You know what I do not get at all? Why isn't there enough coverage about it if it is true?

The new retirement age on paper will be greater than 60, in reality will be 40+. We are so cooked.
