So I'm planning to go to Meghalaya this December but I'm not sure, should I go with a package or self planning the whole thing and go there? I do have one or two friends who might join.. so anyone please help!!!! And if you guys have already been there, let me know the itinerary and also the cost pp!!

Meghalaya is very, very pretty but can be expensive if you do it solo. The cabs are expensive and there is a 50-200 rupees parking fees everywhere, even for bikes if you ride yourself. I was there for a week and the costs were around 50000 for cab, stay and food. I went as a solo traveller
Meghalaya is around 400km from my home. No need to go with any package or any crap. Just go to Shillong, book a good hotel before (go with homestay rather than hotel), ask the hotel staff they provide cabs, last time I went around June 2025 with my wife, just to stay for a few days. For 2 days sightseeing etc, max 2k it will cost using cabs within shillong. Outside Shillong, it will be double. Practically, these are not cabs when you book from Shillong. Most the cars you will see in Shillong are Alto cars. You can do this in our own if you're planning to see within shillong, if outside, have some company and take a guide.
Pork is main food here, so if you are okay with it. Be sure to check the menu before eating in restaurants.
People are amazing here, very friendly, climate is fucking cold (best thing), guides are good too.
Fun fact: Most hotels in Shillong you won't see any fans in the rooms.

you could contact a local travel company, and negotiate with them
they charge around 5k/day for the car and driver which includes fuel, toll, etc
they can recommend you hotels and restaurants too, but you can choose according to your budget
try to plan at least 5 days, its really beautiful out there
