MBA(IIM) or Job Switch(23L)

What would be the best choice for me? I am an economics 2020 graduate currently working as a PMM at a startup. I am also looking to pursue mba. I have recently got an admit from a bschool and an offer from a startup. The startup is a known one in its industry. Help me decide!

Job is what I would suggest. After 2 years you would have 2years additional experience and package will also increase. If you do MBA, you will have a gap in resume, educational loan to pay. If the same job market conditions continue, you will be weeded out just for gap in resume first thing.

This is a peak scarcity mindset.
Complete risk avoidance, seeing everything a zero sum game, worry about money to live prioritizing everything, and presenting non issues as negatives

In which world is Mba seen as a resume gap? Lmfaoo. Probably only in the big 4 consultancy world.

Also, Deloitte, touch grass.

I don't have a 26lpa job after my MBA from a B-school ranked much higher than IIM Shillong, so do take the job man

Isn’t Paytm paying that to the product managers ? Which college did you do MBA from ?

XLRI, and yes, you can call it 26lpa if you add stocks & bonus (if stock price was at the same level when we got placed), but base is just 20.

Shillong is not the same as A,B,C. Also you might end up at a pay way higher than what you'd get pursuing a MBA from Shillong. Would suggest that you pursue it from abroad instead.

Shillong is not the same as A, B, C. Since OP is not the top 500 rankers of India, MBA is a sab idea.

Yeah. Right.

Also please do comment why you have chosen a particular option

23+3 is a package you can get after MBA too, in fact, it will be the median or average package from Shillong most likely.

You can target better B schools in the next 1 year (domestic + international).

Only reason I would suggest avoiding delaying MBA is the years of experience, it is not highly valued in the campus (by students & companies alike) if over 4 years. In that case, ISB should be your preferred option.

If it's IIM shillong then let MBA be. If you are already earning 23+3 you should Target BLACKI or ISB, FMS, JB, MDI(worst case). While your salary post graduating might be around 25 your cen expect a better growth after.

JBIMS

Not really. MDI is at a disadvantage due to batch size.

IIM is a freaking tag and a lot of exposure over there. Best would be to do MBA and then make double money πŸ€‘πŸ’°.. this is reality and you will have lot of options too... If you are really interested go for it man πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€

Think long term atleast 10 years down the line, can go for MBA.

If you pick the MBA, you will have to go through 2 years of not earning, take on new debts and there is no guarantee of getting a higher salary after 2 years.

If you take the job, you will earn money in these two years and could possibly get promoted or change again in 3 years.

MBA makes sense if you want to change your domain entirely like Investment Banking or Consulting

If you already have a good network through the companies you've worked in or through your grad school, them IIM Shillong MBA won't add much.

On pure economic terms, it doesn't make sense. Ignore those who say that MBA gives you faster growth.

People see a lot of growth in salary between 2-7 years of workex.

Apart from salary comparison between the 2 options - also compare the kind of roles that companies offer at IIM Shillong and the startup role offered to you now. Most people doing MBA end up hating their first job/role and start looking for a new job within 6 months. You don't want to be in a position where you end up hating your post MBA job but are forced to carry on to pay your education loan EMI.
