“Let’s Revisit This Next Year” = Probably Never
If your boss or HR says, “We’ll discuss your promotion/hike next year,” what they often mean is:
🔹 “Hoping you forget or stop asking” – Classic delay tactic. 🔹 “We don’t have the budget, but we won’t tell you” – If they wanted to give it, they would. 🔹 “We want to see more commitment” – Aka, do more for the same pay. 🔹 “Maybe if someone quits, we’ll consider it” – They’ll promote you only if they have no choice.
🚨 Lesson: Never accept vague promises. If it’s not in writing or with a clear timeline, assume it’s not happening.
