They will ask for your expectations. The normal advice would be is not to give out a number. In my experience, its impossible. The alternate i suggest from my experience is to give 50%% more that what you are willing to settle.. So, if you are expecting 40% hike, quote- 60%. This is only with the team manager/technical round when they ask. When the hiring team person is asking, they generally ask this question when they are satisfied with the person. They are now evaluating budget. If their budget is less that the expected amount, they wont call for the HR round.
In 90% of the cases, its not the HR who decides on the pay. incase they did ask, and you go straight to the HR final round. Double up your expectations. Feed them tech bullshit. Tell them how you will contribute to bottom line from day 1. If the HR low balls you, it means they want to set lower expectations. Spin as much nonsense as possible and simply try to walk away saying you will think and confirm.
