Laid Off - Need suggestions πŸ’”

My hunch is I'm going to be laidoff this month. Same reason - cost cutting, toxic work culture, dirty politics and all. Obviously this is not a good news. Now I've few questions to the people who fell into this situation and got the next job successfully.

  1. Should I be scared? - I think yes, cuz I don't know when will I get the next job.
  2. What is the ideal gap that is okay for recruiters? What's your opinion about this?
  3. I've already started my prep , so I feel like I'm ready. So, how should I apply? Because, when I was applying 20 days ago, I didn't got any calls. So what to do in this case?
  4. I'm mentally frustrated right now because of my manager and toxic work culture. My manager deserves a separate post, I'll do it some other day but not now. This layoff came out of nowhere. So , yeah bit sad cuz there will be no income right now πŸ₯²

I'll write a whole other post about the work culture and dirty politics that my manager played with few of my team members along with me.

Yeah, I'm bit of sad right now. I've no idea what will happen now? Where life will go and what turn it will take? What other things I should do and you suggest now??

Thanks πŸ™πŸ»

Bro, everything happens for a reason. Maybe God want you to relax so that you could think, decide and take an action wisely for your next job. God want you to work in a better place. So don't worry much, just relax and prepare for next job. Wishing you Goodluck.

Good luck, dude. Try not to worry too much (easy to say, I know), keep preparing and applying, you'll find one eventually.

And don't forget to give yourself time to rest & recover from the effects of staying in a toxic culture.

What's your YoE and stack btw?

Buddy they were about to put me in PIP. I myself resigned to save myself even I'm stuck in the same situation. The worst part is my job role isn't relevant anywhere outside and I have only 2 months to find my next job.

Don't want to talk bookish here, but will tell you a short story that happened with my colleague in January. He had a 40% offer and he has accepted, but the company didnt leave him on time, so he lost that offer and finally he was out of job in Jan first week. Such an unlucky situation, right. He dint lose momentum. He took a break for 5-7 days and started job hunting with a new zeal. Did I tell you he has a family, two kids, one goes to school. He kept trying and somewhere in May, he landed with 2 offers, he cross negotiated both offers 2-3 times and finally joined one of those with some 45% raise compared to his January offer.

I remember on his last working day in January, I wished him that he shall get a better offer shortly. And I am glad he got one, happy for him.

Corporate world is a snake and ladder game, it gives you heights and pulls you down also. Get rid of emotions against your ex manager or whoever it is, as it will not yield anything for you, but impact your job search. Get a great offer and show them what you are made of. That's the real victory. All power to you πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ

First of all, it’s great that you took this platform to share this, goes to show that you are strong enough to share it and practical enough to think of what can be done next instead of sitting and fretting over it.

Start by taking 2-3 days to process the news, it’s a big wave and can lead to multiple questions, but know that it is not your fault and that they folks delivering this to you and your company is at the loosing end by giving up on amazing talent like yourself.

Then sit and think through of everything that you have done and bring it into your resume to keep it updated. Once you have identified the things you have worked on you can start preparing on the topics accordingly.

Update this resume in job search portals and switch the option from searching for jobs actively to serving notice period. You will get more traction this way.

Finally run haywire and apply to internal openings within your company even if they are senior positions. Reach out to folks for referrals and look for opening in other teams.

Last but not the least, know that this is a passing phase and it does not decide your worth. You WILL get a bigger & better opportunity than your current one.

Hope this helps, wish you all the best!

Rust me I was laid off after 2 days of my engagement! With no money stored, I was out but the next opportunity I got was brilliant 10 times better in all aspects!
Not to sound morbid or disappointing, but the next job comes after layoff is always much better if you find it with right heart and all honesty! Trust me on this

Every sunset has sunrise , definitely you will get job . Keep preparing. Update in naukri and all job hunting app with proper resume ( remember put only relevant experience and technology details which you are looking) in naukri there is option to check profile performance , check if your profile getting in search of recruiter with the tech which you want if not again properly prepare resume . I have done that with help of chartgpt . If possible take naukri resume display and priority application service for 3 month which will cost you 3.5k around . Keep adding people in linkedin with you tech stack and whoever posting any job opening for your tech apply . All the best.
