Job stress is real

Hey, recently a guy joined as team leader. And I work as ML engineer under him. During meeting he acts like a boss insteaded of helping or solving the problem. I did innovation in a project and it solved 60% problem with my ML model, thing is he is unsure whether it will work or not even though I have given proof on his unseen dataset with numbers. I want to still do research and come up with better ideas. But he is more focused on things like flow diagrams, writing pep8 standard code, then git push etc. He act like I want like this not like this so my entire time wasted in these thing rather than on actual problem thing is we can document and wrote code in standard format, first priority should be is this project working well or it just garbage. If projects is not working well then what's the use of flow diagram and codes. Is he correct ?
